Has anyone used Maaco to have their car painted? How did you like their work?

Question by city dweller: Has anyone used Maaco to have their car painted? How did you like their work?
I’m thinking of having my car painted. Maaco has some great prices, but I also know that sometimes get what you pay for. Have you used their services before? Are they good?

I haven’t but have done quite a bit of research on this topic. It depends on what you want done. Ask yourself whether you want a thorough job (i.e. the entire shell of the car), or just the outside? Are you willing to do some of the prep work (e.g. removal of plastic fittings and taping off of glass) yourself? If you are willing to do some prep work and don’t want a thorough job, Maaco should be fine. But if you let them do everything, you’re in trouble. I’ve heard real horror stories from people who just parked their car as-is, paid the fee and got it back in fairly indecent condition. It’s cheap, but you get what you pay for.

    I had a fried that did and it looked great…till 5 months later the paint started to look older and started to scrape off. I guess depends how much your willing to pay…because if you purchase a paint job that’s on special, chances are is not that good of a paint job.

    90% of a paint job is in the preparation – and if you’re willing to do the necessary preparation (removal of trim, sanding, priming and blocking the vehicle) Maaco will put a decent paint job on it for you.

    dont do it,with maaco you get exactly what you pay for,(crap)they dont prep your car they just paint right over the existing paint,no primer or anything,they also dont open the doors and paint the jams,I wouldent pay 10 dollars for a maaco paint job.

    It really depends on the the person doing the painting. As we all know, money talks. Don’t be timid, walk yourself around back and have a PRIVATE conversation with the guy doing your paintjob. Give him an extra $ 25 before and promise an extra $ 25 afterwards if he takes his time and paints your car like he would be painting his own. $ 50 dollars is substantial motivation.
